Canning Pears in a Steamer
Canning Pears / Canning Pears in a SteamerPreparation:
Everything needed for canning must be absolutely clean. The jars should be boiled after washing (or sterilized in the steamer at 100 degrees). Place the jars upside down on a clean kitchen towel. Wash spoons, lids, etc. thoroughly with a dishwashing solution and rinse with boiling water if possible.
Storage:
All canned goods should be stored in a dry, cool, and dark place.
Preparation of the fruits:
Wash the pears thoroughly, remove the stems and core, and peel them. Then halve and fill into the jars. Pour water over them. Leave 2-3 cm of headspace at the top.
Seal the jars tightly and can in the steamer at 90 degrees for 50 minutes (1-liter jars).
Filling:
Wipe off all drops and fruit residues from the rim of the jars to ensure an airtight seal. For jars with rubber rings as a seal, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes before use and dip them in boiling water just before placing them on the jars.
Fill the fruits or the syrup only so high that about 3 cm remain to the top edge. The syrup should cover the fruits. After sterilizing, let the jars stand overnight before checking the seal.
